Imam Abdullah Haron gave his life in the fight against racism in Apartheid South Africa.
On this day, in 1991 the Parliament of South Africa repealed the Population Registration Act - the law that was the foundation of apartheid. First enacted in 1950, it required the classification of all South Africans at birth by race. Although this marked the removal of the last of the apartheid laws, black people in South Africa still could not vote.
